And now … To each of the seniors who have dedicated so much passion, energy and expertise to the production of Grant Magazine, I, Christopher Hawking (Grant Magazine’s humble adviser) do bequeath the following hopes, wishes and sincere admirations:

To Ari Tandan, hair-rocker, earring-dangler and calm, cool presence at the center of the newsroom. I have been so impressed with your work ethic, your critical mind and your infinite optimism, even in the face of seeming disaster. Your steady leadership and editorial expertise have been critical to the health of the magazine over the past two years, and in my heart I know we would not still be here without you. I wish you all the best in Southern California, and I hope you find a new vehicle for your brilliance.

To Jessica Griepenburg, nurturer, friend and wearer of emotions firmly on your sleeve. You have been the inspiration that has kept this crazy ship afloat. You are a master editor with a keen eye that strives for perfection. You know how to face even the toughest topics with heart and a human touch that cuts through the chatter to reveal the shining center of each issue. In short, you teach. But at your core, you are a writer’s writer, and it has been such an honor to get to work with you. The world is yours if you want it, and I trust you will write your way into a bright, bright future.

To Ella Weeks, artist, designer, problem solver and maker of extreme magic. With each new issue, I become more and more impressed with your ability to take raw materials and make them beautiful. You have been the quiet hero of this whole production, and have elevated the quality of Grant Magazine to a level it has never seen. You have set the bar high, Ella, and we can only hope to continue in your footsteps. I wish you all the best and can only imagine the beautiful and amazing things you will create in the future
