After a 3-0 loss, players gathered on the sideline with their second place trophy. Grant will lose five seniors next season after finishing with a 14-3-2 record.

Matthew Jewell, senior:

“What I was thinking was how I was in this situation before, freshman year, and I was a swinger and I basically knew I wasn’t going to be able to play. But this time I thought: ‘This is actually an opportunity to do something and actually play in the game and change the outcome.’ Because freshman year, we lost 1-0. So I thought that this is the time that I could play and hopefully do something better for the team.”

Takumi Hebert, sophomore (center, wearing green and black cleats):

“I didn’t start at the beginning of the season. And then I just did what I did in training and I earned my starting spot by scoring goals for us. I didn’t really feel accepted at first on the team. I didn’t really know many people at first because I was injured last year. So I didn’t get the ball too much and I couldn’t really show what I could do. But that all changed as the season went on. When we were down in some of the playoff games, everyone kept coming up to me and saying, ‘We need a goal, Takumi.’”

Cameron Chin, senior:

“I was just thinking back over the years like to the first day of tryouts. That it was over. Everything that our team had gone through and how it was coming to an end. It wasn’t really as much about winning or losing. I was just happy and proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
