“The best part of volunteering at the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) Clothing Center is that you are making a real and tangible difference in a child’s life every day, and giving back to our community. Having a kid say, ‘This is the first time with Nike shoes. I am going to fit in like everybody else,’ That is what brings you back. That is what keeps you wanting to help out at the Clothing Center because you know you are making a difference in kids’ lives. It is a sense of pride of what we do … especially kids, helping them feel good about themselves at school. It is a sense of giving back to community, it is a sense of helping other people so they can feel good about themselves.”

“You look good, you feel good, you do good work at school. They kind of are all intertwined. It’s different if you’re a well-off kid who chooses to dress that way — chooses to buy used, ripped up stuff. That’s different. You still feel good about yourself because you have all these other things. Kids who all they’ve got is how they look at school — it really makes a difference.”
