Surrounded by a Sea of Books

Senior Kindra Jones felt at home as a library intern. For her, the library was a safe haven. She started working there as a freshman one to two times a week, but it became more frequent starting junior year. She spent most of her time shelving books in the back room or picking up trash tossed on the floor by students.

“We check people into the library, check books in and out and shelve books. We also each have a section of the library to make look nice. We also do a bunch of odd jobs like helping people get what they printed, doing inventory of the entire library and reorganizing the back room. I’ve learned the Dewey Decimal system, which I have no plans to ever use again. It’s also a quiet place to hang out when I have nowhere else to be.”
